Whether a yard got away from you over a busy season, you just moved into a property that hasn't been maintained, or it's a rental that's been sitting, an overgrown yard cleanup gets things back to a normal maintenance schedule. Here's how it works.

What counts as an overgrown yard cleanup?

An overgrown yard cleanup is a one-time service for a property that's gone past what routine mowing can fix. That usually means tall or matted grass, weeds taking over flower beds and borders, overgrown shrubs, and general debris that's built up from lack of maintenance.

It's different from our regular spring and fall cleanups, which are seasonal resets for a yard that's already being maintained. An overgrown cleanup is the first step to get a neglected property caught up.

How much does an overgrown yard cleanup cost?

Pricing starts at $120 and increases from there based on how overgrown the property is, lot size, and how much bed and shrub work is involved. A yard that just needs a tall first mow will land closer to that starting price, while a property with waist-high weeds throughout the landscaping and heavy debris will run higher.

Because every overgrown property is different, we give a flat rate after taking a look, so there's no surprise cost once the crew is there.

Can you mow grass that's really tall?

Yes. Very tall or matted grass usually takes more than one pass, since cutting it all the way down at once can shock the lawn and leave clumps behind. We typically mow it down in stages, raising the deck for the first pass and lowering it gradually, so the grass isn't scalped and the clippings don't smother what's underneath.

What happens to the weeds in my beds?

Overgrown beds get cleared out by hand, pulling weeds, cutting back what's died off, and removing anything invasive that's spread into the lawn or walkways. If the weeds have spread into the grass itself, we can also talk about a weed control treatment as a next step after the initial cleanup.

Do you haul away the debris?

Yes. Cut grass, pulled weeds, trimmed branches, and any other yard debris from the cleanup gets bagged and hauled off the property. You're not left with piles to deal with afterward.

How long does an overgrown cleanup take?

Most residential properties are done in a single visit, though heavily overgrown lots or ones with a lot of bed work can take a full day or spill into a second visit. We'll give you a time estimate along with the price once we've seen the property.

Will my lawn be damaged from being overgrown?

Grass that's been left too long is more stressed, but it typically bounces back with regular mowing once it's brought back down to a healthy height in stages. Bare or thin patches left behind by heavy overgrowth or dead weeds can usually be filled back in with overseeding once the yard is caught up.

What happens after the cleanup?

Most customers move straight into regular weekly or biweekly mowing once the yard is caught up, so it never gets back to this point. We can set that schedule up during the same call.
